Scuba Diving FAQ

Can I dive Nitrox?

Certainly, for an additional charge we offer N36 and N32 mixes in AL 80 tanks but you will need to provide proof of your Nitrox certification. We suggest you consider Nitrox for the second, shallower dive rather than the first deep one, for the odd chance there might be a down currents on the wall dives.

Can I dive without any experience?

Yes, for beginner divers we offer the introductory Discover Scuba or Resort Course. It’s a dive from the beach with an Instructor. Afterwards we can take you on the boat to do a 2-tank dive, usually to world famous Palancar Reef, as long as you are accompanied by an Instructor and don't go any deeper than 40ft (12m).

Do you cater to advanced divers?

We cater to advanced divers by doing all computer profiles, taking strictly small groups of 6-9 max., and for specializing in the more advanced Special trips (Punta Sur, Maracaibo and Barracuda Reefs). We do those sites frequently.

Do you cater to beginner divers?

Yes, we cater to divers of all levels of experience. Most of our Dive Masters are also Instructors so they will keep a close eye on you and help you to feel comfortable in the water. If you haven’t dived in the last year and have less then 10 dives experience then we highly recommend that you do a Refresher Course before you dive from the boat.

Do you offer snorkeling tours?

Yes we do, it is no problem to combine divers with snorkelers. We pick sites that are conducive for both activities. If we have 4 or more snorkelers on the boat, we will assign a snorkel guide. Our snorkeling trips usually go to Palancar and Colombia Reef.

Do you take cruise ship passengers?

Yes, we regularly take passengers from cruise ships but all reservations must be confirmed in advance and the deposit payment made. You will need to let us know the name of your ship and the arrival and departure times and the time zone this is based on (EST or CST) so we can confirm the best trip to accommodate you.

How big are your boats and what are your group sizes?

We run small fast boats for between 6- 9 divers and most of time keep our diver to divemaster ratio at 6:1. On our bigger boat that holds up to 9 divers, if we have 8 or 9 divers then we will provide 2 divemasters and split into separate groups. We can also cater to larger groups on charter boats.

How deep and how long are your dives?

Typically our 2-tank dives consist of a wall dive on the first dive, depth anywhere between 60 to 90 feet, or the advanced sites up to 130 feet. The attraction on this dive are the coral formations, huge pinnacles, swim throughs, the drop off and the chance of spotting larger fish, turtles, sharks, eagle rays, etc. The second dive is typically on a platform type reef at a depth of 45-60 feet and lot’s of marine life. Both dives last typically 45 min to 1 hour depending on divers air consumption.

How do I make a reservation?

Send us an email with what you are intrested in. We will reply with prices and any relevant information and once you are ready to confirm we will send you a link and instructions for you to safely pay a deposit.

How often do you organize twilight / night dives?

We have no fixed schedule for night diving and organize them on request (except on Sundays). We only need a minimum of 4 divers to do a night dive or 3 divers to do a 2-tank twilight cives where your first tank is daylight and your second a night dive.

I haven’t dived too much and feel a bit nervous?

Not a problem. If you are certified but haven’t dived in a while we can give you a Refresher Course with an Instructor. This is a beach dive to review all the basic skills and then get back into practice diving, getting used to the equipment again and getting the hang of buoyancy control. If you still feel nervous afterwards you can still dive from the boat but we suggest you go with a private Dive Master until you feel comfortable joining the group.

If I am staying on the mainland can I still dive in Cozumel?

Yes, there is a fast and frequent ferry service from Playa Del Carmen to Cozumel. You will need to take the 7:00 am ferry to make our 9:00 am departure, or the 12:00 pm ferry for our 2:00 pm departure. If you are staying in Cancun or Tulum then you will need to get to Playa del Carmen, depending on which transportation system you use you will need to allow 45 min to one and a half hour to get to Playa del Carmen.

What if the weather is bad and the trip is cancelled?

If trips have to be canceled by Deep Blue because of bad weather conditions then you will receive a full refund.

What is the minimum age to dive?

Our minimum age for divers is 10, but there are depth restrictions on junior divers under 15 years old which may require you to take a private Dive Master.

What kind of accommodation do you offer?

We offer a varied range of hotel accommodations from 4 stars beach front hotels to economy hotels downtown. Most hotels offer the same rate for 1 or 2 guests and have an extra fee for a third person. Some have all-inclusive options available.

What payment methods can I use?

For deposit payments you can pay through PayPal with any valid credit card, or PayPal account. When paying your balance in Cozumel, we can take VISA, MC, or AMEX, but there is a 5% charge on credit card payment.  We can also take cash pesos or US dollars.

What size tanks do you use?

Our standard tanks are AL 80. For a small extra charge we also have available AL 100 for those who are a little heavy on their air consumption as well as Al 50 pony tanks for those of who hardly use any air.

Where do we go to get on the boat?

Our boats depart from a pier downtown called Aldora, so if you are staying in town or to the north you can meet at the shop and walk down to the boat. If you are in a hotel south of downtown, we will pick you up on the boat at your hotel pier. Just let us know where you are staying and we can let you know pick up time and any other relevant information.
